The students who were pepper sprayed last year, will get $1 million

The students of University of California located in Davis, who were pepper sprayed by a police officers last year while protesting  on the campus, will get $1 million.

They protested because of rising of tuition and privatization of the University, and the silent protest was stopped by the police. The video of the police violence became viral, it was everywhere (you can see it bellow).

"I want the university and the police to understand what they did wrong," one of the attacked students Ian Lee said in a statement.

He plans to spend his money to pay tuition, and said that the other students will do the same.

"We believe the proposed settlement is in the best interests of the University of California," said Steve Montiel, spokesman for the UC Office of the President. "We have been moving forward for some time," he added, noting the school system's own review after incidents on its Davis and Berkeley campuses.

The officer who pepper sprayed Lee was suspended and no longer works at the University, and the local district attorney's office said last week that officers involved in the incident will not face criminal charges.
